Please join us on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 1:00-3:00pm for a special presentation, Diving For History: Roy Hattori and the Monterey Abalone Fishery. Monterey was once the abalone capital of the world. Tim Thomas, Historian will look at the history and importance of the abalone fishery and how Monterey’s Roy Hattori, the only Nisei (second generation) diver in all of California contributed to it.
Roy Hattori was the original discoverer of the white abalone but was never given credit. Tommy Hattori will be sharing information about his grandfather, including original documents from the 1940’s and 1950’s that demonstrate his discovery of the white abalone.
