Join us for the Monterey Abalone Festival, a two-day celebration on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Monterey JACL Hall.
On May 2, 1926, the Japanese Association opened their new hall at 424 Adams Street in Monterey. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the now Monterey Japanese American Citizens League Hall, Monterey JACL is planning a series of events and programs over the next several months, starting with, the Abalone Festival: All Things Abalone!
Explore the natural, cultural, and culinary history of abalone. The festival includes abalone races, Rumen Ohlone Tribal Community Dancers, walking tours, films, abalone farming, lectures, abalone shells for purchase and more. There will be a special session on the White Abalone Project on Saturday, July 26 from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
Monterey has a long history with abalone. In fact, Monterey and abalone go hand in hand. It was abalone that first brought the Japanese to Monterey, and it was monies made from abalone that built the JACL Hall and the Monterey Wharf.
The Monterey JACL Hall is located at 424 Adams Street. Street parking is available for 2 hours and free parking is available in the lot to the left of the Monterey JACL Hall.
